For the past many years, Star Island has had a special
type of boost when opening up for the summer. It started out as a small
handful of conferees from all conferences volunteering their Memorial
Day weekend to tackle fix up projects on the island. It has turned into
a few weekends before and after (and including) Memorial Day with crews
that practically constitute a full conference. Coordinators pick crews
to work on almost ALL projects, from landscaping to painting to creating
new foundations to creating completely new buildings. Crews have consisted of conferees, past and present Pels, Church groups, Corporation members, past caretakers, and assorted other people. In the last few years, there have been numerous work weekend coordinating with Open Up activities during the months of May and June. These images were from the weekends that I was able to attend - not from all the weekends. If you have any photos of WW projects, please e-mail me and I will get them posted to this page.
